Library
The Library of IUR
The library of IUR is one of the Netherlands’ best bibliographical, archival and documentation collections on the sciences and civilization of Islam. The library of IUR houses an extensive collection of publications, documents and reports on and about the Islamic religion, history and civilization of Islam published both in the Arab world, the Middle East, Turkey and more particularly in Europe. It has two main functions:

  • to support teaching and research on Islam in Islamic world and in Europe, particularly in the Netherlands at the Islamic University of Rotterdam.
  • to support research on Islam in the wider academic community outside the Islamic University of Rotterdam, since the collection’s contents are unique in the Netherlands by the type of material, range of subject coverage and range of country coverage.

The library of IUR is a Dutch national resource of primary documents on the economy, politics and society of the contemporary Islamic world. Having started to operate during the academic year 2001, the library provided important research material for those interested not only in the Islamic religion, history, civilization, politics, economics, social developments and international relations, but in wider issues relating to Islam vis-à-vis international politics, economics, geography, education, business and social science as well. The library covers all Arab countries, Turkey, and several countries which have a close relationship with the Islamic world. Documents are held in all the major languages relevant to the topic, including Dutch, English, Arabic, and Turkish languages. Academics and students who are interested in the sciences, history, arts, and civilization of Islam as well as many other academic subjects will find the holdings of the library relevant and useful.
